I’m fundraising for The Borgen Project because we cannot solve major issues such as overpopulation, national security, economic instability, or gender inequality without first addressing the wealth gap that exists underneath it all. Poverty isn’t just another issue on the list. It is a fundamental root cause of many of them. My work in both Sustainable Development at Columbia and Political Science at Sciences Po has only confirmed this for me: the wealthiest nations have the most resources to close this gap, and closing it benefits everyone, not just the countries receiving aid. I believe that addressing this economic gap is the single most effective thing we can do to create lasting change and make the most positive impact on people and the planet.
