The Borgen Project operates at the political level, meeting directly with Members of Congress (typically 92% of the U.S. Senate meets with The Borgen Project annually). We’re advocating for an arms embargo (crucial to a ceasefire) and a drastic increase in aid being allowed into Gaza. We want to amplify the voice of returning medical workers and help put political pressure on U.S. leaders. Please reach out to us if you served in Gaza and would like to participate.
Key ways that returning medical workers can get involved:
1. DC Trip to Capitol Hill
The Borgen Project is scheduling Congressional meetings for January 28th and 29th (2025). Most people will fly on Monday the 27th and fly back late afternoon or evening on the 29th. If you’re interested in participating in this trip or future lobbying trips please let us know. Meetings are scheduled 30 minutes apart (12-15 meetings per day) and you will be meeting with both parties and offices representing various areas of the U.S.
Email – [email protected] if you are interested in lobbying for Gaza on Capitol Hill.
2. Congressional Meetings via Zoom
Lobbying without the travel… In-person meetings can be helpful for connecting with Congressional staffers, but in general we’ve found lobbying meetings done via Zoom to be just as effective. This also allows you to fit the meetings around your work schedule and not spend time traveling. There is no knowledge of policy required. A Borgen Project staffer will lead every meeting and help you share what you witnessed.
Next Steps: Schedule a time to lobby by filling out this form. Alternatively, you can download a copy of the form and email [email protected] with the dates and time span when you’re available to do Congressional meetings via Zoom (ie. Nov. 1st 9AM – 11AM EDT). Ideally, send a date 2-3 weeks in advance. The meetings are usually scheduled every 30 minutes, so if you’re doing a 3-hour block of meetings you’ll potentially be doing 6 meetings during this time.
