Hello! I’m Eiona, and I am volunteering as an intern for the Non-profit leadership team for The Borgen Project. As part of my role as an intern, I am raising money for the project. Any donations would be greatly appreciated.
Here is a bit about the project, why I got involved and where the money is spent!
The Borgen Project works to end global poverty, encouraging governments in more powerful nations to review their foreign policy and budgets. As a politics student, I am hyper-aware of the ongoing global crises and the detrimental impact they have on individuals and local communities. COVID19, for example, pushed 71 million people globally into poverty (more than the entire population of the UK). Currently, over 700 million people in the world live in extreme poverty. I believe the way to overcome global poverty is for the international community to work together in political institutions to make structural changes to help developing nations, hence my support for The Borgen Project. Any money donated goes towards projects or advocacy for change in legislation to aid more people out of poverty. In 2016, The Borgen Project used donations to advocate for the US foreign policy, reauthorization of the Global Food Security Act. The program of Feed the Future, supported by this legislation, lifted 23.4 million individuals out of poverty. In the UK, The Borgen Project is currently lobbying to keep the Official Development Assistance (ODA) as a key topic of discussion. The UK government is cutting the foreign aid budget to 0.3% in 2027. This is significant as the UK’s foreign policy changes the lives of many globally. Between 2010 and 2015, with the UK government’s support, 76 million children globally were immunised, saving 1.4 million lives. Your donation today will contribute to advocating for valuable UK foreign aid to continue.
