I am volunteering at The Borgen Project for career development, continued learning and because I find joy in writing. We can do a lot with words and I’d like to improve my writing by doing more of it that is critiqued for publishing! I am interested in global issues, particularly health related global issues for a few reasons: Understanding global issues expands our mind, well beyond the communities and countries we grew up in. Also, having moved from Australia to Northern Ireland 12 months ago, I recently saw some racial violence with my own eyes which I will remember for the rest of my life. Racism is just one example of a global issue which has far reaching impacts. Having grown up personally unaffected by racism or poverty, I don’t have a personal understanding which would allow me to genuinely grasp how such experiences are felt. However, by the end of this internship I aim to be well informed about many more global issues, and this will hopefully create a more empathic view of the world around me.
