AI’s Influence on Chad

AI has established itself in a prominent role worldwide, enhancing the creative field, improving analysis and data research in the medical field, and tracking changes in the weather. In Chad, a country struggling with poverty, AI could support development, including potential applications in health care. Here is information about AI’s influence on Chad.
Chad’s Digital Strategy
Chad has a digital strategy for 2020–2030, described in a World Bank project document, which aims to modernize infrastructure, integrate digital technologies into growth sectors, support financial inclusion and create jobs. This provides a broader foundation for digital development.
Chad AI Network
Chad also has a dedicated AI community called Chad AI Network, which brings researchers, students and other specialists together to develop solutions to local challenges. Its stated areas of work include education, agriculture and health.
AI in Health Care
AI’s influence on Chad extends into health care. Research outside Chad illustrates some possible uses of AI in health care. A U.K. study described by the World Economic Forum found that an AI model could correctly predict in 80% of cases whether ambulance patients needed hospital transfer. This concerned a model using patient information, rather than a chatbot diagnosing people at home.
However, evidence from other countries does not establish that these tools are ready for use in Chad. Limited connectivity and digital infrastructure remain barriers. AI could potentially make health care more accessible if appropriate tools, infrastructure, and safeguards develop further in Chad.
Data-Governance Initiatives
From May 13-21, 2026, the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa and its partners held a series of data-governance engagements in N’Djamena. The activities included the introduction of the Government AI Campus, a free learning platform for public officials, and an AI Readiness Assessment to identify existing capacities, institutional gaps, and priorities for future support. A stakeholder workshop on May 21 contributed to developing Chad’s data-governance framework.
Future Prospects
Despite Chad’s challenges, efforts to develop AI skills and data governance show potential to support its development. Turning that potential into benefits for communities will depend on addressing connectivity, infrastructure and governance gaps.
