Subject: Supporting Ireland’s commitment to development cooperation
Dear [TD’s Name],
I hope this message finds you well.
As a constituent and a supporter of The Borgen Project, I am writing to encourage your continued support for Ireland’s commitment to Official Development Assistance (ODA).
Ireland has built a strong global reputation for its leadership in development cooperation, providing approximately 0.63% of Gross National Income in ODA. This reflects meaningful progress toward the international target of 0.7%.
Ireland’s development assistance, delivered through Irish Aid, plays a vital role in improving lives in some of the world’s most vulnerable communities. Irish-supported programmes have contributed to:
- Providing life-saving humanitarian assistance in crises such as famine and conflict
- Expanding access to education, particularly for girls and marginalised groups
- Strengthening healthcare systems, including maternal and child health services
- Supporting smallholder farmers and improving food security
- Advancing gender equality and protecting human rights
- Building resilience to climate change and supporting communities affected by extreme weather
At a time of growing global instability, conflict, and climate challenges, these programmes are more important than ever. Ireland’s approach—focused on the furthest behind—has made a meaningful difference and is widely respected internationally.
I respectfully ask that you support sustained and increased funding for Irish Aid, work toward achieving the 0.7% ODA target, and continue to raise the importance of development cooperation in the Dáil. Strong political leadership will be essential to ensure Ireland remains at the forefront of global efforts to reduce poverty and respond to humanitarian crises.
Ireland has the capacity to make a significant difference in the lives of vulnerable communities worldwide. Continued investment in development cooperation will ensure that Ireland remains a strong and principled global partner.
Thank you for your time and consideration, and I look forward to your response.
Yours sincerely,

Subject: Urgent action needed to address the humanitarian crisis in Sudan
Dear [TD’s Name],
I hope this message finds you well.
As a constituent and a supporter of The Borgen Project, I am writing to draw your urgent attention to the catastrophic humanitarian crisis unfolding in Sudan.
After more than two years of brutal conflict between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), civilians are facing starvation, mass displacement, disease outbreaks, and widespread violence.
Over 30 million people now require humanitarian assistance, and Sudan has become the world’s largest displacement crisis, with more than 11 million people internally displaced and millions more forced to flee across borders.
The situation is deteriorating rapidly. According to UN reports, famine is already present in multiple regions, including displacement camps in Darfur and Kordofan. Millions are at risk of starvation as food, water, and medical supplies become increasingly inaccessible due to ongoing fighting and restrictions on humanitarian access. At the same time, outbreaks of cholera, measles, and other preventable diseases are spreading as Sudan’s health system collapses.
Humanitarian agencies are struggling to reach those in need. Aid convoys have been blocked, staff attacked, and key access routes disrupted. The United Nations has warned that without immediate and sustained humanitarian access, hundreds of thousands of lives are at risk. Under international humanitarian law, including the Geneva Conventions, the obstruction of aid and the targeting of civilians are unacceptable.
I respectfully urge you to support increased Irish humanitarian assistance to Sudan. Please back diplomatic efforts for an immediate and sustained ceasefire and raise this issue in the Dáil to keep political attention on this urgent crisis.
Ireland has a strong tradition of humanitarian leadership and global solidarity. At this critical moment, continued engagement and leadership are essential to save lives and alleviate suffering in Sudan.
Thank you very much for your time and consideration, and I look forward to your response.
Yours sincerely,
