With more than 1 million Syrian people seeking refuge in Turkey, this project would allow for the voluntary return of Syrians to Syria, easing the strain on Turkey. This monumental undertaking not only addresses the critical housing shortage but also highlights the commitment of these nations to alleviate the suffering of displaced Syrians. Additionally, in February 2023, the Qatar Charity completed the first phase of a housing project for internally displaced persons (IDPs) living in camps in Northwest Syria. OCHA’s Syria Cross-border Humanitarian Fund (SCHF) funds this project, which involves constructing “250 housing units, each consisting of two rooms, a kitchen and a bathroom, replacing the tents with homes. The project also seeks to build 54 other housing units for IDPs families in other camps,” ReliefWeb says.
