Name: Xavier Celestino
Location: Cheshire, CT
Position: Politial Afairs Intern

Fundraising Goal: $1,500

How did you get interested in global issues?
I have always found the way nations interact to be fascinating, and after beginning my studies of government and politics at St. John’s University, I realized that I have a passion to be involved in the way that the world works.

Why are you volunteering your time to serve the world’s poor?
As someone fortunate enough to be born an American citizen, I feel that I have a responsibility to use my rights and freedoms to do what I can for those who are not able to fend for themselves. I think that inaction in the face of millions of suffering humans is akin to supporting the suffering itself, we have the power to make change, and so we should absolutely use it for good.

Any interesting tidbits to share?
I am the youngest of four children coming from a traditional Italian family. We have family dinners twice a week that include cousins, aunts/uncles, and take place at my grandparent’s house, so family values are deeply ingrained into my life. I have always been versatile in the things I enjoy, like being a former two sport athlete but also regularly attending comic cons. I also love cats and I am extremely fascinated by plants.

My compassion/humility list:
I will do the following for any friends or family who donates in my honor…

  1. Any donation above $250: I will buzz cut my hair (including a video posted online)
  2. $150: I will get you a free lawn mowing (mower not included)
  3. $125: I will go to a local beach and clean up garbage for an hour
  4. $100: I will wash your cars
  5. $75: I will walk your dog/pet sit for you
