Name: Vanessa Hyde
Location: Des Moines, Iowa
Position: Human Resources Intern

Fundraising Goal: $500

How did you get interested in global issues?
I’ve been an avid traveler over the last decade, and it brought many life altering perspectives to my attention. I realized how much of what I have here in America I take for granted and began questioning why we as the human race are not doing more to prevent the rest of the world’s misfortune.

Why are you volunteering your time to serve the world’s poor?
I’ve always had a “take action” type of drive. Rather than feeling helpless and just talking about these situations, I want to be a part of the tribe that is taking action every day.

Any interesting tidbits to share?
Fun Facts: I was a traveling Diagnostic Medical Sonographer for 4 years and I just finished my first half marathon less than a month ago. I enjoy sand volleyball, biking, spending time with my pets, and getting into a good book.

My compassion/humility list:
I will do the following for any friends or family who donates in my honor…

  1. $100: I will run my next half marathon in a costume of your choosing.
  2. $100: Clean your house
  3. $50: Walk/Watch your dog/cat.
