Name: Tom Gould
Location: Brighton & London, UK
Role: Political Affairs intern

Fundraising Goal: $500+

How did you get interested in global issues?
I have been interested in global issues since a very young age. My granddad was a Labour MP, so it definitely runs in the family! The 2015 general election and the EU referendum in 2016 were certainly the two catalysts for my passion for politics. I also gained more interest as I have gotten older, for example doing A-level Politics and then going on to do Politics and International relations as my degree.

Why are you volunteering your time to serve the world’s poor?
I am volunteering to serve the world’s poor as I believe I have a moral duty to help those who are less privileged than me. Poverty, homelessness and the huge gap between the poor and wealthy, is something that has always enraged me, both in the UK and globally. It is unjust that some people are worse off because of the family or area that they were born into.

Any interesting tidbits to share?
I enjoy doing a lot of physical activities, such as going to the gym, doing Brazilian jiu-jitsu and playing rugby and football. I’ve had debates with high-profile politicians, such as Caroline Lucas, Peter Kyle and Jacob Rees-Mogg.

My Compassion/Humility List
I will do the following for any friends and family who donate in my honor.

  • Host a quiz night with food and drinks provided. Pay for entry – £120
  • 5-aside football match – £120
  • Bake sale/coffee morning – £50
