Name: Taylor Hofmeyer
Location: Long Beach, CA
Position: Political Affairs Intern

Fundraising Goal: $500

How did you get interested in global issues?
I have studied international development for four years in university. I became interested in the topic when I discovered the United Nations Millennium Development Goals. I became deeply troubled by the plights of the developing Third World, and I decided I needed to become more knowledgeable on the topic. I travelled to South America in Buenos Aires, Argentina where I was able to discern several instances of poverty that I currently had not known about living in California.

Why are you volunteering your time to serve the world’s poor?
I am volunteering my time because I feel that it is the right thing to do. The First World, specifically the United States, does not do nearly enough to help alleviate poverty in other nations. If they invested more into poverty-reduction, they could generate markets to build their own economy and gain more consumers. However, since the current International Affairs Budget is so minimal, I feel the need to do my part and raise awareness around the issue of global poverty.

Any interesting tidbits to share?
I enjoy playing the guitar, travelling, listening to music, and running like Naruto with my friends.

My compassion/humility list:
I will do the following for any friends or family who donates in my honor…

  1. $50: Wash your car
  2. $100: Sing (with my terrible voice) for you in front of a large crowd
  3. $200: Dress up as your favorite fictional character and walk around Venice, humiliating myself.
