Your Mission: Find the Twitter accounts for celebs, athletes and public figures who you think would be good fits for The Borgen Project. Send them a tweet asking them to join cause.

Objectives:

  1. Increase awareness of the organization among celebs, influencers and people with the platform to reach large numbers of people and engage the public.

  2. Encourage those individuals to take action.

Tweet to Your Favorite Media

Encourage your favorite media to cover the issues or cause. Find the Twitter accounts for reporters, producers, anchors and other media figures. Send them tweets encouraging coverage.

 

Example:

@Morning_Joe How about a shout out to The Borgen Project tomorrow! @borgenproject

@JoeNBC Would love to see the gang discussing food aid reform. @borgenproject covers the latest.

@morningmika Global poverty dropping has created U.S. jobs. @borgenproject explains how on their website. Please cover! https://borgenproject.org/global-poverty-u-s-jobs/

Political Social Media Strategies
Twitter and FaceBook have become important tools for leaders to communicate to the public and gauge public opinion. Many members of Congress do their own tweeting… Some members even do too much tweeting #anthonyweiner. All members of Congress also have staffers (usually the Communications Director) who are in charge of monitoring what people are saying to/about the leader on social media.

 

Step 1. Find your leaders social media accounts. The following links might be helpful.

Step 2. Follow/add your leaders.

Step 3. Occasionally tweet/post comments in support of the International Affairs Budget or key poverty-reduction bills.
