682 million people currently live with severe deprivation of basic human rights, including food, shelter, healthcare and education. 719 million people are living on less than $2 per day, suffering from poor sanitation, malnutrition and often also political instability. These statistics illustrate the harsh reality of extreme poverty; a reality I did not understand the scope of until volunteering with The Borgen Project. I grew up with a privileged, multicultural background across London, Dubai and Singapore and I have been exposed to extreme poverty by volunteering abroad. I have a passion for social justice and I believe advocacy is one of the greatest solutions to the global epidemic of poverty.
