How did you get interested in global issues?
I think a breaking point for me was learning about North Korea in college. I’ve always liked geography, but this specific topic was the spark of the fire that started within me. I couldn’t understand how we, the world, can let others suffer in poverty and under autocratic regimes. Since then, I got interested more into politics and chose my path of International relations & Diplomacy at University. From there, my determination to act only deepened.
Why are you volunteering your time to serve the world’s poor?
Seeing organizations like The Borgen Project really gives me hope and belief in humanity. For me personally, being a part of advocacy on behalf of those who are most in need, yet don’t have any power or resources to change anything, is what truly makes sense to me. It is an emotionally rewarding job and just what I would want other people to do for me if I was born in a poor country.
Any interesting tidbits to share?
I love Tarantino’s films! I like to travel and learn languages, a long work in progess has been my French and German. And also, another hobby at which I still aspire to be good, is cooking. (Only really enjoyable if I’m alone in the kitchen and have all the ingredients.)
