How did you get interested in global issues?
The people I have met while traveling have inspired me to take an interest in global issues. This past March (2019), I was moved to tears when our tour guide, in Israel, shared his story with the group. The man was originally from Gaza and had to flee with his family to Bethlehem after receiving several death threats. It is astonishing how things like this happen every day around the world.
Why are you volunteering your time to serve the world’s poor?
Some of the greatest saints of our time dedicated their whole lives to serve the world’s poor. This internship is an opportunity to follow in their footsteps. As Saint Mother Teresa said, “I alone cannot change the world, but I can cast a stone across the waters to create many ripples.”
Any interesting tidbits to share?
Little known fact about me is that I wanted to be the 1st female President of the United States of America when I was growing up. I even wrote to President George W. Bush when I was six-years-old urging him to reconsider going to war after the terror attacks of 9/11.
My compassion/humility list:
I will do the following for any friends or family who donates in my honor…
- I will take your dog out for a walk (twice for one week)
- I will babysit for an evening
- I will read you a bedtime story to you every night (for one week).
