How did you get interested in global issues?
During my time studying MA Violence, Terrorism and Security at Queen’s University Belfast, my enthusiasm for international relations and conflict studies flourished. This is why it was so striking to me that the refugees of the Kosovo War and Genocide were Clint Borgen’s inspiration for starting The Borgen Project. Many people underestimate the life-altering consequences of war for normal civilians, which continue to reshape their lives even after a conflict is resolved. It is clear that extreme poverty is a result of war, famine, drought and other external causes, and that more economically developed nations have a responsibility to help those experiencing poverty. I have always wanted to get involved in a non-profit organisation such as The Borgen Project, and use what I have learned to help others facing extreme poverty.
Why are you volunteering your time to serve the world’s poor?
I have always wanted t get involved in a non-profit organisation such as The Borgen Project, as I believe that I can use my time and knowledge to make a positive impact on others’ lives. I hope to learn a lot throughout the course of this internship, and to help increase awareness of global poverty.
Any interesting tidbits to share?
I am very interested in environmental issues, and I also volunteer for Greenpeace Belfast as their social media coordinator.
