Name: Michaela Janssen
Location: Santa Fe, New Mexico
Position: PR/Marketing Intern

Fundraising Goal: $500

How did you get interested in global issues?
My interest in global issues started in high school with a history teacher who focused on current issues. I was in shock and awe with everything she was teaching me; from the Rwandan genocide to Invisible Children. This opened my eyes to issues outside of the United States and just how lucky I was to have the smallest freedom such as being able to attend school and have a decent education. Later, while traveling abroad in Thailand and Peru, I witnessed global poverty up close. That’s when my interest really started to grow.

Why are you volunteering your time to serve the world’s poor?
I have found a passion for marketing and the idea of representing what someone or something stands for. I want to use the same technique to represent as well as bring to light social and world issues. I want to be a part of something bigger.

Any interesting tidbits to share?
I am an avid yoga practitioner and specialize in Chakra yoga. I believe we are all part of nature and life, so it’s important to be connected with humanity and mother nature. In the future, my goal is the be an advocate for animals and people who have suffered and deserve a better way of living.
