Name: Alex Lewis
Location: Woodhaven (Queens), N.Y.
Role: Regional Director
My interest was sparked from a very young age as a missionary pastor’s child living overseas, when I too often encountered people residing in the poorest of conditions. The issues and images of people struggling in lesser developed countries was something that I saw at least once day for the 19 years. So when it came to getting involved and becoming a part of a wonderful program like The Borgen Project to assist in advocating for the worlds poor, it was something both very hard to resist and all too familiar to not continue doing.
When I’m not volunteering and fighting for global poverty I’m a senior completing my B.S. in aeronautical & mechanical engineering at Clarkson University in Potsdam, N.Y., where I hope to later attain a Master’s in aerospace engineering. If I’m not in school I’m participating in some sort of athletic sport or activity. More often then not you’ll catch me playing soccer. I’m an avid adventurer and adore traveling and experiencing new things. I love spending time with friends and family as well as getting the opportunity to meet new people. I strongly believe anyone and everyone can help in making the world a better place in whatever they do as long as they set their minds to it.
The very simple ways to not only get involved in The Borgen Project but also to take initiative and get people donating and supporting the program. It is amazing how much knowledge I’ve gained from all the insightful information that is provided by The Borgen Project on the issue of the world’s poor so that we can gain a true understanding of the problem at hand and what we can do to solve.
What do you find most exciting about starting as a Regional Director?
Everything about it! For one, I cannot wait to start learning how my role can help to get more people involved in supporting the movement. Another is that the position will allow for me to be a leader to others in guiding them and equipping them with the necessary tools in the right direction toward attaining our common goal.
