How did you get interested in global issues?
Global awareness is crucial. The reality is that 689 million people worldwide still live in extreme poverty and make less than $1.90 per day, presently 785 million people drink contaminated water or must travel great distances to acquire clean drinking water, while 822 million people, or 1 in 9, experience inconsistent access to adequate and safe food. These figures highlight the critical need for ongoing efforts to reduce global poverty and promote sustainable development. I believe that if a problem affects even a small portion of the population, then it will eventually affect us all. Being conscious about the world we live we in, helps me understand what I can do and where to adjust.
Why are you volunteering your time to serve the world’s poor?
My motivation for volunteering comes from a strong moral obligation and sense of responsibility to help those who are less fortunate and make a difference in society. My drive comes from wanting to have a positive impact on society and from wanting to connect with others who share my goals and values. Also, I understand that volunteering offers a chance to acquire priceless abilities, information, and experience that can help with both personal and professional development.
As a result, I see volunteering as a way to use my resources and skills to bring about change, end suffering, and advance social welfare.
Any interesting tidbits to share?
I love my family, netball and food.
