Name: Maria Prosser
Location: Nashville, Tennessee
Position: Writer

Fundraising Goal: $500

How did you get interested in global issues?
I’ve always wanted to help people, but once I started dating a man from Colombia he opened my eyes to the world’s problems that happen outside of my own country. I started paying attention to international news and seeing how privileged my home is and how much help the US can give to other countries that need our power and influence.

Why are you volunteering your time to serve the world’s poor?
Seeing footage as well as reading accounts of people in the world who struggle just to survive has made my heart ache. Now I want to do everything in my power to provide as much help as I can to the effort of providing better lives and basic human rights to all the world’s people.

Any interesting tidbits to share?
I have been writing since before I could write. I would tell my mom stories and make her write them down for me so that I could make “books” until I could finally write on my own. It’s always been my greatest passion! I also love art—I could paint for hours!

My compassion/humility list:
I will do the following for any friends or family who donates in my honor…

  1. I will paint a portrait of whoever donates $100 dollars.
  2. I will cook dinner for whoever donates $75 dollars
  3. I will write a poem dedicated to whoever donates $50 dollars
