Name: Manan Shah
Location: Lynchburg, Virginia
Position: Political Affairs Intern
Fundraising Goal: $500
How did you get interested in global issues? As the son of two brave people who immigrated from India to the United States of America, I have always been interested in the social, cultural, and political affairs of our world. Several of my friendships with immigrants have also inspired me to deepen my knowledge of different cultures, and perspectives of the world. With time, I realized that although our nationalities may be different than one another, our core values are the same. This is why I believe America, as a developed nation, should use its power to provide aid to impoverished nations. What harms one, harms all of humanity, regardless of different nationality or religion.
Why are you volunteering your time to serve the world’s poor? I believe that as a citizen of the most powerful nation in the world, it is my duty to use my privilege to help the underprivileged. There are innocent men, women, and children across the globe who have been stripped of their rights and forced to face the injustices of extreme poverty, war, and genocide. I believe that my absence to act on this issue, knowing that I have the power and resources to do so, would contribute to this injustice. I hope you will join me today in this mission to service those in desperate need of our help.
Any interesting tidbits to share? I enjoy creative writing, playing piano, discussing politics, and learning more about different cultures.
