How did you get interested in global issues?
As an avid newsreader, I have always had a keen interest in global issues. Growing up in the capital city of London, I have been exposed to a variety of different cultures and diversity. I have been informed and surrounded by individuals who have fled their hardships in less economically developed countries. It is important that we advocate for change in the strongest ways we can. Global issues have always been present, and new strategies need to be introduced so these countries can evolve and families can have a better quality of life. The incident which first drew me to global issues was the Hidden Genocide in Rwanda, after researching and discovering the suffering experienced by the civilians, I couldn’t help but find myself wanting to change and help their society. Ever since such discovery, my passion to campaign for alleviating and defeating the poverty and vulnerable states of these countries grew.

Why are you volunteering your time to serve the world’s poor?
I am volunteering my time to serve the world’s poor as I believe everyone should have a fair and equal chance at life. Coming from a more economically developed country, I have the capacity to help towards making a change. I believe one person can make a change, and being involved in The Borgen Project will enable me to complete such a challenge. I believe every child should have access to education, every individual should have access to healthcare and sustainable environments should be created. I want to be part of this movement in defeating poverty and this is my gateway to doing so.

Any interesting tidbits to share?
I love nature, anything green! I really enjoy reading, writing, philosophy and running! I also would like to share a favourite quote, Ralph Waldo Emerson once said ‘to be yourself in a world, that is trying to make you like everyone else is the greatest accomplishment’. This quote ignited my passion for change and growth!
