How did you get interested in global issues?
In April 2022, I volunteered with a charity for Care4Calais, focusing on aiding the refugees stuck in Calais. Taking the short trip from London to the northern coast of France, I quickly realised how little physical distance means. No less than two hours from my home, people lived in tents in a frozen field, unable to support themselves. This experience opened my eyes to the disparity that surrounds us. There is something wrong with the world if we can live in such comfortable ignorance whilst those around us fight just to stay alive. Since then, where I can, I have tried my best to help. Whether it’s a bag of pasta in the food donation bins or a pound in a fundraising box, it is our responsibility to help those in need.

Why are you volunteering your time to serve the world’s poor?
It is the responsibility of those at the top to help those at the bottom. We have a duty to share what we have and time is something I have plenty of. Right now, I can’t help directly, but The Borgen Project presents a chance to help from a distance. Together, the largest countries in the world have the means to end world hunger, and The Borgen Project continues to advocate for this change to happen.

Any interesting tidbits to share?
I am in the third year of a Physics degree at Lancaster University in the UK and plan on following it up with a Master’s degree in the same field. I have a passion for the wellbeing of our planet – including those on it. In my spare time I like to travel, watch movies and listen to music.
