Lina Oliveira Ulrich

Name: Lina Oliveira Ulrich
Location: London, United Kingdom
Role: Political Affairs Team Member

Fundraising Goal: £400 or more

How did you get interested in global issues?
Growing up, my mom would take me to visit her family in Brazil. While my mom’s family is extremely fortunate, others in Brazil do not have the same luxuries. My mom grew up in poverty, her parents were not able to provide her the care she needed and she was send to live with her grandmother. Thus, I have been exposed to the harsh realities of those less fortunate and have always wanted to become proactive in helping others.

Why are you volunteering your time to serve the world’s poor?
I want to contribute to the betterment of someone’s life. As someone with access to higher education, health services, and food and water, I know how lucky I am. Unfortunately, others are not as lucky, and I want to do my part to help.

Any interesting tidbits to share?
I am German-Brazilian and an avid reader. My favorite novels include Chronicles of a Death Foretold by Gabriel Garcia Marquez and Anna Karenina by Leo Tolstoy.

My Compassion/Humility List
I will do the following for any friends and family who donate in my honor.

  • £100 – Teach my flat mates to make a recipe my mom makes.
  • £250 – Bake a cake.
  • £400 – Learn to knit.
