Name: Lauren Podd
Location: Margate, Kent, UK
Role: Writer

Fundraising Goal: £400

How did you get interested in global issues?
I’ve always been an advocate for equality. The level of inequality and austerity on a global scale is an outrage, and it’s totally unfair that millions of people suffer due to others’ greed and ignorance.

Why are you volunteering your time to serve the world’s poor?
I’m volunteering so I can learn how to help more effectively and consistently. The level of poverty is only getting worse, and I’d like to do something that actually enacts change and progress.

Any interesting tidbits to share?
I’m a busy mum who loves to walk the dog, do CrossFit and read. I love writing and engaging in politics, and I’m a big fan of Woman’s Hour on Radio 4. Random fact: I got a tattoo in a bar in Oaxaca. I then had to get a Hep B shot when I got back home – oops.
