Name: Julie Van
Location: Boston, Massachusetts
Role: Writer

Fundraising Goal: $500

How did you get interested in global issues?
From addressing climate change to educational access to social issues, I believe that we can all play a role in creating a better world for all. Advocating for policies and legislation that would improve the conditions for those living in poverty and address social inequities globally is something I am committed to working towards.

Why are you volunteering your time to serve the world’s poor?
A professor once told me this: “If language is the way in which we interact with the world, then we can use it as a powerful tool for resistance.”

I believe that storytelling and writing can serve as a powerful platform to inform, educate, empower, and connect. I invest in sharing stories and utilizing my communications skills in order to address important issues.

Any interesting tidbits to share?
I enjoy eating Ben and Jerry’s ice cream by the pint, have gone skydiving twice, and I used to know how to ride the unicycle.

My Compassion/Humility List
I will do the following for any friends and family who donate in my honor.

For anyone who donates, you will receive a handwritten thank you note as a token of my appreciation – either personally delivered or sent via postal mail depending on your geographical location and preference.
