I am volunteering for The Borgen Project because our government can be doing more to alleviate the suffering of those in poverty, both in the UK and abroad. The Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) uses its foreign aid budget to increase stability and create prosperity in less economically developed countries. However, since 2020 spending has decreased by nearly 24%, which has exacerbated the issues faced by those living in poverty abroad. Our aim is to pressure the government to get back on track with its spending and not allow them to ignore ongoing foreign humanitarian crises. To fundraise for the cause I will be running a minimum of 3.7 miles everyday, which is the average distance that women and children in the developing world walk for water daily.
