Name: Jared Schooley
Location: Elkhart, IN
Position: Political Affairs Intern

Fundraising Goal: $1,000

How did you get interested in global issues?
I’ve always had a more global view of issues like poverty. Sometime between watching Disney movies and reading dry books about tax policy, it just clicked. Barack Obama visiting my high school during the height of the Great Recession may have played a small role in my civic passion as well.

Why are you volunteering your time to serve the world’s poor?
I am hoping to go back to school very soon to complete a degree in Public Policy and desire strongly to have some experience on the ground influencing policy-makers to contribute to a better world.

Any interesting tidbits to share?
Sad fact: For every 1,000 live births in Sudan, 82 infants die and 82 of those 1,000 are born with birth defects, the highest rate of birth defects in the world.
Happy fact: The supplements and vaccinations that could drastically reduce those numbers are very cheap and very effective.
