How did you get interested in global issues? I travel often, and over the past few years, I have noticed a number of global issues happening that receives little attention from the United States. I see how much we take for granted here in America, as there are so many living an extremely hard life- something even the most unfortunate in America can’t even imagine. It’s heart-breaking, and we need to focus much more heavily on these issues in order to see any improvement.

Why are you volunteering your time to serve the world’s poor? When I moved to St. Augustine to go to college at Flagler, I had never really seen such a large amount of homeless people concentrated in one city. It made me think, “If there are so many people living at the poverty level in a small city in America, imagine what life is like in poverty-stricken countries where millions are living with these conditions.” When I found out about The Borgen Project and all that they do to help advocate for the world’s poor, I was immediately interested and decided I not only wanted to, but needed to be a part of it.

Any interesting tidbits to share? Some of my favorite hobbies include running, writing, surfing, and hanging out with my family and friends. I’m a vegetarian, and I love to cook! I’m double majoring in strategic communication and media production, as well as minoring in advertising. I’m originally from Iowa, but I am currently attending school in the oldest city in America- St. Augustine, Florida.

My compassion/humility list:
I will do the following for any friends or family who donates in my honor…

  1. $50 to cook dinner for my family
