Name: Ewa Lapczynska
Location: Chicago, Il
Position: PR/Marketing Intern

Fundraising Goal: $500

How did you get interested in global issues? I became interested in global issues after reading, The Kite Runner, in high school and realizing that there are so many different people living on this planet with various lives and struggles. There is so little anyone can do on their own, but with others, at least the smallest acknowledgment of world poverty can lead to some change that could bring a smile to someone’s face.

Why are you volunteering your time to serve the world’s poor? I am volunteering my time to serve the world’s poor because I personally believe the media we experience in the States can be biased and selective of the stories they report. The tremendous process of narrowing down what to report on everyday leaves many essential narratives behind. There are many things going on in a world with 8 billion people, and I want to make sure more people receive the recognition and help they deserve.

Any interesting tidbits to share? Alongside my internship, I’m starting to embroider a piece of linen that my grandma made from scratch. Through this, I hope to turn it into a tablecloth for my family to enjoy.

My compassion/humility list:
I will do the following for any friends or family who donates in my honor…

  1. For a donation of $25 or more, I will write the donor a random short story from any genera of your choosing.
  2. For a donation of $100 or more, I will help clean your house.
  3. For a donation of $150 or more, I will embroider a 4×4 inch area on any fabric of your choosing.
