Emily Oomen
Name: Emily Oomen
Location: Bothell, WA
Role: Journalist

Fundraising Goal: $500

How did you get interested in global issues?
I have always had an interest in global issues and a fiery passion to change the world for the better. When I was younger, I was involved with National Geographic’s Geography Bee and Model United Nations. Recently, I helped fundraise for the organization RAICES which helps with the global issue of immigrant rights along the U.S.-Mexico border.

Why are you volunteering your time to serve the world’s poor?
I am volunteering my time because I have a fiery passion to help those who are in poverty. I can’t just watch people suffer on the news, then look away. I know that we can make a change, so I go out and do the best I can to make that change.

Any interesting tidbits to share?
I’m a writer and you can find more of my writing on social media: @ejowrites and on my website emilyjoyoomen.com. I also have a YouTube channel, called Literary Espresso, where I have caffeinated discussions about books and writing.
