How did you get interested in global issues?
I have always had a love and interest for learning about different cultures in our world. While I have always loved learning about this, my study abroad experiences in South Africa really sparked my interest in global issues. After immersing myself in the everyday culture, I left the country with a very strong desire to talk about global issues. I had a first-hand look at the different forms of corruption in South Africa. Because of this personal experience, I have a very strong aspiration to help the world’s poor.

Why are you volunteering your time to serve the world’s poor?
I am volunteering my time to serve the world’s poor because it makes me feel productive and happy! The sad reality is that those who suffer from severe poverty in undeveloped countries do not have as much of a voice as those people living in Western societies. I want to be a voice for the many people that I volunteered with, befriended, and surrounded myself with during my study abroad and travels in sub-Saharan Africa.

Any interesting tidbits to share?
I have recently gained an interest and love for cooking! After spending some months travelling, I met many people from all over the world who I cooked with. They were nice enough to introduce me to some local recipes from their home country. Some of my personal favorites are Libyan pasta, and chickpea curry!

My compassion/humility list:
I will do the following for any friends or family who donates in my honor…

  1. For a $25 donation, I will send you a personal thank you card with a small surprise!
  2. For a $50 donation, I will cook you a very lovely dinner of your choice!
  3. For a $75 donation, I will wash your car!
  4. For a 100$ donation, I will clean your entire house!
  5. For a $250 donation, I will wash your car, clean your house, AND clean your front and backyard!
