How did you get interested in global issues?
I have been interested in politics since I was 11, but I became particularly interested in global issues in 9th grade. For a project in 9th grade, I had to research the history of Middle East, as well as current military involvement. I found myself asking “Why try to bomb the terror out? Educating the population makes more sense.” I soon realized that education and stability can only be fostered when the country reaches a level of affluence-I realized the need to uplift people out of poverty.

Why are you volunteering your time to serve the world’s poor?
I am volunteering my time to serve the world’s poor because I have seen firsthand the benefits. Majority of my relatives live in India. When I was young, India was impoverished, and as a result, there were issues with education and the economy. Ten years later, India has completely changed. Because more citizens were uplifted out of poverty, education was more easily attainable for those in villages, India’s job market grew, and the economy became the fastest growing in the world.

Any interesting tidbits to share?
My hobbies include ballet, kathak (traditional Indian dance), baking, biking, swimming, and reading.
