How did you get interested in global issues?
My interest in global issues developed during high school after visiting St. Lucia, the country my parents are from. It was my first time outside of the United States, and although I knew not everyone lived an American lifestyle, this was the first time I experienced it first hand. From here, I grew interested in other countries and everyday challenges they faced that I was unfamiliar with. We live in the age of information and communication, and I think the only way to make all this information worthwhile is to find ways to help those who are suffering, because, now, not only do we have access to this information, we also have access to ways we can help.

Why are you volunteering your time to serve the world’s poor?
Living in a city as diverse and connected as Brooklyn, New York taught me that the opportunity to help someone in need is always right around the corner. However, not everyone is fortunate enough to live in a community as tight-knit as mine, and I feel like the privileges and opportunities I receive from this would be wasted if I didn’t at least make an attempt to change the lives of others who were not given the same opportunities and privileges as me.

Any interesting tidbits to share?
I am a soccer (football) fanatic.
