Name: Ashlyn Jensen
Location: Houston, Texas
Fundraising Goal: $500
How did you get interested in global issues? In my teens, I became very involved with fundraising efforts/mission work through my church community. During that time, I participated in a multitude of events in which the sole purpose was to raise funds for communities less fortunate than our own. I’ve had a special place in my heart for it ever since.
Why are you volunteering your time to serve the world’s poor? When I was sixteen, I was fortunate enough to travel to Jamaica for a mission project. Part of my mission work was to visit a local orphanage and bring the children who lived there supplies that they otherwise would not have had access to (snacks, water, toys etc.). Witnessing how something so simple had the ability to change the lives of those children gave me a lifelong passion for helping those less fortunate than myself.
Any interesting tidbits to share? I love coffee, and I’m an avid TV show binge-watcher. One of my favorite things to do is to go to the movies with my friends, who are also “film-buffs,” and pick apart the plot, characters, and overall story.
My Compassion/Humility List
I will do the following for any friends and family who donate in my honor.
- $25: I’ll make you a hot meal from scratch
- $75: I will pay for your coffee for a week
- $100: I will take you out for dinner and a movie
