Name: Ashley Waner
Location: Glasgow, UK
Role: Political Affairs Team member
Fundraising Goal: $$500
How did you get interested in global issues?
My undergraduate Political Science professor sparked my interest in global issues through her lectures and by bringing me to a symposium on the Afghanistan Conflict.
Why are you volunteering your time to serve the world’s poor?
Human trafficking was the focus of my thesis for one of my master’s degrees, and during my research I discovered that many victims are from third-world countries with great poverty. If we can end global poverty, we can also prevent the trafficking of thousands of people.
Any interesting tidbits to share?
I enjoy working out, hiking, playing video games, tabletop games, and role-playing games like Dungeons & Dragons. I also belong to a women’s craft beer organisation that meets to drink and debate various craft beers and breweries, as well as to learn how to brew beer.
My Compassion/Humility List
I will do the following for any friends and family who donate in my honor.
• $50: Walk your dog
• $100: Send you a video of me (poorly) singing your favourite song.
• $250: Send you a video of me walking around in public with the word “Loser”” on my forhead. ”
