Fundraising Goal: $500
How did you get interested in global issues?
Peter Singer’s work has inspired me to acknowledge the privileges I have as a citizen of a first world country and to give back as much as I can. “Famine, Affluence, and Morality” is an essential essay to read for anyone interested in helping those in poverty.
Why are you volunteering your time to serve the world’s poor?
I value the opportunity to alleviate suffering of any kind. The suffering that results from extreme poverty is egregious, so I would like to expose the real-world issues that plague many people from leading better lives in developing countries.
Any interesting tidbits to share?
I enjoy reading and writing (particularly poetry), learning about global issues, hanging out with friends, and working for a good cause. In the past, I raised the most money in 24 hours for a non-profit agency that works with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. I hope to hone my existing fundraising skills to help The Borgen Project!
My Compassion/Humility List
I will do the following for any friends and family who donate in my honor.
- For $100, I will do meal prep for an entire week so you do not have to buy or make your meals.
- For $25, I will write a cheesy sonnet about the relationship I have with you and send it to you.
- For $50, I will give you a random book.
