How did you get interested in global issues?
The summer after my junior year of high school, I went on a volunteer trip to Cusco, Peru, where I taught English at a local center. Each day that I spent teaching in Cusco, I was touched by the kindness people demonstrated despite the economic struggles that plagued their lives, and I saw that the students I taught were forces of strength in a system that has not been fair to them. From this experience, I became interested in economic, social, and political issues on a global level and the interconnectedness of the world.

Why are you volunteering your time to serve the world’s poor?
I am using my time to serve the world’s poor because I feel a responsibility to use my privilege to empower and lift others.

Any interesting tidbits to share?
I love taking my dog to the dog beach, scouting the best brunch spots, and completing the daily NY Times crossword puzzle.
