Name: Ana Sofia Batista
Location: El Paso, TX
Position: Political Affairs Intern

Fundraising Goal: $600

How did you get interested in global issues?
Took a development economics class that discussed the situations developing countries are living in and how easy it could be to help them progress.

Why are you volunteering your time to serve the world’s poor?
Having been born in the U.S., we are really privileged and do not lack anything. However, more than half of the world’s population lives in a country where they do not have the same opportunities that we do. We often take for granted the fact that we have food, water, infrastructure, and many other opportunities that most of the world’s population lacks. Because we have been given such opportunities, it’s our responsibility to do our best to improve the situation other people live in. Especially considering how easy it can be for us to help them and how little it would cost us.

Any interesting tidbits to share?
I like to spend my free time with my friends and family. I’m preparing to take the LSAT and go to law school next fall.

My compassion/humility list:
I will do the following for any friends or family who donates in my honor…

  1. $100:: Make you dinner
  2. $200: Let you crack eggs on my head
  3. $300: Let you decide what you want me to do
