Location: Settle, North Yorkshire
Role: Political Affairs Team member
Fundraising Goal: £400
How did you get interested in global issues?
I became interested in global issues through my degree in international relations, which hammered home to me the interconnectedness of the world and the importance of understanding the global, systemic nature of many contemporary political and social issues.
Why are you volunteering your time to serve the world’s poor?
I’m volunteering my time to put pressure on the UK government to serve the world’s poor because I believe it is an important, pressing global issue that is in the best interests of all global citizens. The Borgen Project has an excellent track record of pressuring Western governments to recognise and serve their global responsibilities, which I am proud to be a part of.
Any interesting tidbits to share?
In my spare time I enjoy reading, running and working with animals!
My Compassion/Humility List
I will do the following for any friends and family who donate in my honor.
One way I’m raising money for The Borgen Project is by foregoing my morning coffee! Coffee beans are one of the main cash crops produced by workers in the Global South and exported to richer countries in the Global North, and is one of many economic ways the two have been connected in an extractive way since colonial times. I believe this will be an effective way of raising both money and awareness, and would encourage any and all people to join me!
