Name: Alexandra Fernandez
Location: Miami, Florida
Role: Political Affairs Intern

Fundraising Goal: $500

How did you get interested in global issues? My background as a first-gen immigrant alongside the teachings of my grandfather, a man who studied and cared for International Affairs longer than I could conceive, and the informal education I acquired through years of Model United Nations training, led me to grow increasingly passionate about learning about and attending to global issues.

Why are you volunteering your time to serve the world’s poor? I am volunteering my time to serve the world’s poor because I recognize the strategic position the United States has in the 21st century as the world’s agenda setter. Due to its democratic nature, I know that as citizens and constituents of the congressmen and women, we hold an incredible amount of responsibility in dictating what agenda is precisely set for the rest of the world to follow. We, as Americans, have the ability to ripple change onto the rest of the world and utilize our voice to assist the world’s voiceless, an offer we should never pass up.

Any interesting tidbits to share? I love playing with my dog, Bailey, and experimenting with new makeup in my free time.

My Compassion/Humility List
I will do the following for any friends and family who donate in my honor.

  1. Make you dinner for a night
  2. Do your makeup
  3. Pet sit while away on vacation
