Akshay Kalair

Name: Akshay Kalair
Location: Coventry, West Midlands
Role: Political Affairs Intern

Fundraising Goal: £450

How did you get interested in global issues?
I became interested in global issues in 2016. During this time the Syrian Refugee Crisis and Brexit were big issues affecting the world at the time. Seeing the plight of the Syrian refugees made me realise how important it is for those in power to help those that cannot help themselves.

Why are you volunteering your time to serve the world’s poor?
I am volunteering to help the poor because global poverty is a solvable issue. This is because global poverty has decreased dramatically in the past 50 years. If more people can act on this issue then we can make global poverty disappear.

Any interesting tidbits to share?
I like to go to the gym regularly and participate in MMA classes every week
